The US movie industry is finally seeing the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. It’s been a long time coming, but finally there seems to be a light at the end of that tunnel. Studios are starting to find more means of supporting independent films, allowing them to get their movie into the general public. Of course, this isn’t going to be easy. There is still a tremendous resistance to change within the major movie industry. As such, we may have to continue to do marketing and promotion on our own to catch these giants.
The marketing plan for a movie should include a decent budget, a release date, a cast and crew, marketing and publicity plans, a synopsis, a plot, and finally, the money. The money will allow for advertising, which is essential if you’re going to make a profit. Without it, you won’t see another dollar coming in. The first few weeks after a movie comes out on the market are very important. This is the period where word-of-mouth sells the ticket sales.
You want to find a way to get your movie into the mind of those most interested in seeing it. You can do that by sending press releases out to the most popular media outlets possible. Send them news articles, movie clips, and anything else the distributor has to offer. If they have a Twitter account, post a link to the promotional material. If they have a Facebook page, offer your friends a like so they can be exposed to your movie and possibly turn into customers.
Once you have the movie in front of the eyes of the viewing public, it is up to you to promote it. There are many ways to do that. You can set up booths at movie festivals and offer tickets for a fraction of the cost of regular tickets. Offer freebies for people who come to your booth and you will begin to see an increase in sales and fans.
If you have a website, post every bit of information you can on there. Schedule time everyday to update your site with new information about your latest release. If you don’t have a website, use blogs to keep your audience updated and informed. Try to release a new trailer every week or two. You can even throw a party once a month to celebrate the release of your newest movie. Your audience will love your announcement and will want to come to your party to see what is new.
With the power of viral marketing, anyone can make a movie and have their movie released to the masses. However, for those of us who have been successful at this, we know the secret to making it successful. We use viral marketing strategies to ensure that our movies are noticed and make us money.
