The term “minimalism” has been coined to describe a certain type of style of living wherein the items inside the house are not decorated, and yet there is enough furniture and decoration to make it feel as if everything is decorated. The minimalist lifestyle also advocates a kind of simplicity that makes every aspect of a person’s life easy and enjoyable, without excess baggage. Decluttering simply means getting rid of anything and everything that you don’t need, and replacing them with new items that are either similar or the same in appearance, functionality, and quality. For instance, you may find that all your bookshelves, lamps, and so on, are now useless, because you rarely read any of them, and you will have to replace them with something else. In addition to being rid of this excess, you may also want to consider getting rid of some things that you simply don’t need at all, such as old electronic equipment, or some of your bulky electronic gadgets. If you simply don’t need these, why keep them around?

A truly minimalist lifestyle must be devoid of material things; after all, these are the basics of a minimalist lifestyle. However, since some people are allergic to certain materials or feel uncomfortable without them, it is necessary to have a little bit of material stuff in order to ensure your comfort. Some people even go so far as to treat their house as if they were still on a much larger continent, with all the material items scattered everywhere and the minimalist lifestyle applied. Others are content to let their houses remain as they are and simply pick up decorative pieces here and there.

To achieve a truly minimalist lifestyle, decluttering should be an absolute part of it. While it is true that this may seem like a daunting task, it is far more simple than most people believe. In truth, decluttering is not an arduous task for most people. It is simply the act of moving everything out of sight, of getting rid of things that no longer serve a purpose or add to clutter. Once this is done, you will then be left with just a few belongings to keep and to be rid of, which should be the ultimate goal.

Decluttering and minimalism are two important pillars of the ideal minimalist lifestyle. These two things go hand-in-hand because both are ideal means to attain the goals of a truly minimalist lifestyle.
