Every Halloween, the big question is, “which Halloween movie is going to be the best choice for my family?” For many families the answer is usually either The Exorcist or The Shining. Both of these horror films are incredibly classic and can be very memorable (especially The Shining). So, which one should you choose?
The Exorcist is probably one of the scariest films in the horror genre. It involves a man (oarder George Wendling) whose mental illness forces him to perform strange things. People think he’s really a witch and that he’s been possessed by the devil. The Exorcist also stars iconic characters like Louise Brooks, Donald Sutherland, and Barbara Hershey. If you want to get into the Halloween mood, this might be a great place to start.
The Shining is another old classic horror film that you’ll find this year. This is the movie that started it all – Bill Murray’s Dr. Strangelove. This is also a great place to watch if you like comedies with bad guys. You should definitely see The Exorcist first if you’re a fan of the film and the book.
The newer sequel to the Exorcist is The Shining. Though the story is almost similar to the Exorcist, it doesn’t have as many familiar elements. Instead, The Shining tells the story of how a single night of bad luck leads an ordinary couple (in this case, a newlywed couple) to a remote ski resort in the middle of winter to spend the night with the man they’ll marry. It’s a wonderful little story that will make you laugh, and maybe even cry at the same time. You should definitely see The Shining when it comes to Halloween because it’s such a fantastic trailer.
Finally, we have the new comedy from Jack Reacher starring Emily Watson. You probably saw the trailers for this one, and you know it’s a great movie. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just mention that Watson plays a vital role in the success of this new Reacher film. She’s a new agent for a top secret and very powerful agency, and you’ll want to watch this movie with the entire family. It’s a light-hearted yet suspenseful film that will be perfect for a Halloween special.
These are just some of the upcoming horror films we should keep our eyes on for this Halloween. Of course, it’s not a guarantee that any of these will come out on the big screen, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth your time when they do debut. No matter what film you end up watching, you should always remember that Halloween is all about being scared. Treating the films we’ve mentioned above as a few examples of what you can expect to see on Halloween is simply a smart move.
