A sedentary lifestyle is basically a dangerous kind of life style involving very little or no active physical activity. A sedentary individual is usually just sitting or laying down for most of the day while engaging in an activity such as reading, socializing, using the computer, watching TV, playing video games, and so on. He or she may occasionally move around but more likely not too much. This lifestyle can lead to many health problems, some of them deadly. Here are some of the main causes of death related to sedentary lifestyles.
Heart attack: There are many different reasons why people get heart attacks. Some of these reasons include having a sedentary lifestyle that is accompanied by smoking, drinking too much alcohol, and not exercising often enough. It is important to have a regular exercise routine that includes aerobic exercises. It is also important to quit smoking if you are a smoker. Alcohol also raises your blood pressure and increases cholesterol levels, so it is not a good idea to drink alcohol. Having a sedentary lifestyle that is not accompanied by any form of physical activity can increase your risk for these health outcomes.
Mortality from cardiovascular diseases: Studies show that those who don’t have any form of physical activity are at a much greater risk for cardiac arrest or death. People with a sedentary lifestyle are at a much higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. All-cause mortality is one of many adverse effects of not having any form of physical movement. Sedentary time is not only bad for your health, but it is also extremely bad for your bank account. When we allow ourselves to sit on the couch or in front of a computer all day, we are giving up a lot of good things. By cutting back on our television watching time, we are increasing our all-cause mortality.
