Swinger Lifestyle – What Does it Mean to Be a Swinger?

Swingers, also known as “meso-frenemies” or “swingers”, are people who practice and participate in a lifestyle, which involves involvement in multiple sexual partners. People who are involved in this lifestyle report having more quality and quantity of sexual activity, both in and out of their primary relationship or marital bond, and a much stronger emotional and sexual relationship with their spouse or partner. Note that swinger lifestyles are not the same as polyamory, which is a form of open ended intimate relationship wherein several partners develop romantic and sexual feelings towards one another. Open ended lifestyle means that the couple can discuss any intimate issues they may have openly, without being closed or embarrassed by their friends or families. Swingers, as a lifestyle, believe that love and sex belong together and should be enjoyed to the fullest.

For many swinger men and women, swinging involves finding new people to enjoy the pleasure of lovemaking. In the swinging lifestyle, partners are not only concerned with the pleasure of the deed (or being penetrated), but also about developing deeper bonds and developing feelings for their partners. The swinger lifestyle can best be described as “sex on a couch”. In a swinger couple, penetration is often achieved through role-playing or fantasy, and not through actual penetration.

Openly swinger couples are usually open and honest about their desires and likes and dislikes, and are comfortable opening up to their partner(s). Swingers often enjoy erotic fantasies and frequently discuss these desires and themes with their sexual partners. Swingers often have several “tops” – or positions – that they enjoy and repeat throughout their sexual relationships. These “tops” allow couples to explore multiple sexual pleasures by allowing the “top” to either be used as part of a pose by the male or as an individual act in itself. Openly swinger couples are comfortable with their bodies and are comfortable revealing their most personal sexual fantasies. They have no problem switching sexual positions or engaging in sex toys on a regular basis.

Many people associate the swinger lifestyle with a sexual revolution – there are even books and movies featuring couples like Heard and Richard Melrose, who played by James Deen and Mike Liza in the movie Soft Swingers. The movie portrayed a swinger couple as the party animals who frequented strip clubs and engaged in “soft swapping”. This was then a popular scene in adult movies. Over the past several years, soft swapping has evolved into what we know today as “voyeurism”. Many people view swinger couples as thrill Seekers and treat the activity as fun, even though the activity is actually considered illegal in some areas. Some places have laws against soft swapping because it involves exposing over half naked people to the public.

Openly swinger couples are perfectly happy to have discreet, light foreplay before having intercourse. They enjoy being able to make their partners feel special without the need to discuss their private activities. Swingers do not like to discuss their private fantasies or fetishes with their partners, because discussing such topics could ruin a potential relationship. Swingers tend to value their partners’ opinions and privacy more than their own, and do not discuss their love life or marital affairs with anyone but their partners. They do not feel pressured at all to remain monogamous in a swinging relationship.

In a typical swinger lifestyle, the swinger couples are like any other married couple, where the wife gives her partner some time alone to spend alone with him or her. The relationship is usually open and honest, although some swinger couples prefer to engage in “vigorous” sex. Some people believe that swinging can lead to serious relationships and marriages, but this is quite the contrary. There are many swinger couples that do not go further than being intimate occasionally, and are often close friends. The swinger lifestyle is actually more of a casual relationship that involves mutual trust, honesty, open communication, and safe sex.
