The sedentary lifestyle includes sitting or being sedentary for too long without any physical activity. Regular exercise and physical activity are necessary for optimal physical health. However, most people fail to include enough physical activity in their day to day life. Sedentary lifestyles can lead to obesity. Obesity increases the risk of heart problems and other health issues. This is why it is imperative to make sure that your entire family is active and take part in some kind of exercise program so that we can all stay healthy and reduce the risk of obesity.

Research has shown that those who are sitting around all day are more likely to die from heart disease than people who are active. This may not be so much of a surprise but simply knowing this fact may be motivation enough to start living an active lifestyle. There are studies that have indicated that the majority of senior citizens who live sedentary lifestyles are suffering from depression as well as osteoporosis.

There are many health risks associated with inactivity. Cancer, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, weight gain, and cognitive problems are just a few of the health risks that can be caused by inactivity. If you are not exercising on a regular basis, it is just impossible to keep these health problems from developing. Starting an exercise routine early in life can help prevent chronic conditions that become hard to treat as the person ages.

Older adults who are sedentary also tend to have more type 2 diabetes than younger people. The sedentary lifestyle can increase the amount of sugar consumed which promotes type 2 diabetes. Exercise can help decrease the amount of glucose consumed by the body and this prevents type 2 diabetes from developing. Being active regularly can also reduce the risk of having kidney stones. If a person is not active enough they may develop kidney stones and if they already have them they can prevent them from developing further by getting more exercise each day.

One other area that is linked to both type of diseases is the development of mental health disorders. It has been found that those who are not active spend more time sitting than those who are active. This type of sedentary behavior can contribute to the development of both anxiety and depression. It can be very easy for those suffering from one of these conditions to blame their poor mental health on being too busy.

Physical activity helps to reduce the amount of stress that a person faces on a daily basis. Sitting on the couch all day can take its toll on the body and this can lead to a number of physical ailments. Starting an exercise routine will greatly improve the quality of life and health for people who are sedentary. Sitting on the couch all day can cause an increased chance of getting heart disease, cancer, stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes. All of these conditions can have very serious and deadly consequences.
