Many people believe that a sedentary lifestyle is associated with poor health and weight gain. The truth is that weight gain inactivity has nothing to do with your health or your weight. Sedentary lifestyles are not good for your body in any way. However, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to poor cardiovascular health, and in some cases it can even cause heart disease.

A sedentary lifestyle is one where you spend a large amount of your waking hours sitting in an upright position. Your muscles become weak over time without much use. Even if you eat a big dinner, you should still include a physical activity during the day. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. In fact, exercising regularly lowers the risk of heart disease. Scientists have proven that exercise lowers blood pressure and reduces cholesterol levels in both the blood stream and the lining of the heart. These physical inactivity increases the risk of blood clots, or plaques. These plaques narrow the passageway of blood to the heart and can cause heart attacks.

Obesity is another major source of chronic diseases. People who are overweight or obese are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, as well as heart disease. Being sedentary in addition to being overweight or obese increases the health risks of getting these types of diseases.

Being inactive can also lead to decreased bone density. Lack of physical activity not only decreases bone density but it can also affect the health of older people. People who lack physical activity are more likely to develop osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is one of the largest causes of death in the U.S. for women and may lead to mortality in later life.

Not including cardiovascular workouts can increase the risk of heart disease and other cancers. It is believed that people who are sedentary engage in a poor diet, engage in tobacco use, and do not take part in physical fitness activities. This unhealthy lifestyle is linked to a number of heart disease conditions. When combined with high body weight, lack of physical activity leads to increased risk for developing coronary artery disease, heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer. These increased risk factors, in conjunction with an unhealthy diet, are associated with increased mortality.

Being sedentary in today’s society is a problem that many people don’t even consider. Sedentary lifestyles can lead to many problems that we didn’t think would be associated with inactivity. It is important to get off the couch and get moving. If you don’t start now, the longer you’ll remain sedentary, the worse your health will become. Many people don’t realize how serious a problem being sedentary can be until it is too late to reverse it.
