Peet’s Coffee is one of those places that bring back memories for me. Like many others, I also grew up in the mountains of Northeast Ohio and there were a lot of “funky things” to do there. Among those activities were trekking, rowing, riding ATVs, and camping. The place is a fantastic place for anyone who enjoys “back to nature” type activities.
But along with all my “cool hobbies”, being a resort manager has always been one of my favorite things to do. My wife grew up there and it still has a big smile on her face whenever we take a trip there. I love coming there to watch movies with her and she just loves the atmosphere of the place. It reminds her of the old movies where the hero always manages to outsmart the bad guy or bad situation.
And one of those movies is “The Replacements”. Starring James Belushi, it’s a wonderful movie that takes place in the 1940s. Johnny Depp plays a veteran actor who is headlining a movie, and Meg Ryan plays the role of a young actress. They’re thrown together by an accident and end up together after the movie is completed. It’s a very funny and touching scene.
Now, that doesn’t mean I’m going to go watch “The Replacements” any time soon. But maybe sometime soon I’ll have the opportunity to go to the coffee shop and enjoy a cup of Joe. I love watching movies at work because there are always funny scenes and friendly faces around. It really brings a friendly atmosphere to the office, so I enjoy coming to work like that. A great coffee shop can be a great place for employees to build bonds, which helps everyone stay motivated and happy.
This morning while I was typing up a report, I happened to notice a passing reference to the old movie. It made me smile, and I thought it was a very funny line. A friend of mine has been telling me about how much she hated her job at Starbucks for the most part, and how much she wished she had a coffee shop down by the water. I suppose it depends on how you feel about your job, but the idea is fun. If you’re looking for something to do in the middle of the day, then maybe you should consider getting out of the house and enjoying a great old fashioned coffee with your co-workers.
There is something about a good cup of coffee that calms us down. Maybe it’s the nostalgia or just the simple enjoyment of being able to stop in for a quiet, personal coffee break. The old timers at the coffee shop may reminisce about their favorite old movie stars, or they may know someone who owns the rights to a certain film. Whatever the case, it’s certainly worth looking into. If you find yourself with an extra half hour of time, why not visit your local library and see if you can find out the plot of an old movie that you would probably never have time to view on DVD.
