Top Five Scary Movie Franchises of All Time

It’s hard to decide what is worse, watching a scary movie or not. Some people will never watch a scary movie, no matter how many times they’ve been told to. Some children are just naturally drawn to scary things which will undoubtedly frighten them. They will cry and beg for you to watch a scary movie together and spend the entire evening at your side.

But even there are scary movies out there which toe the line and deliver some serious, if somewhatomachic thrills, some creeping horror elements and some genuinely unsettling and horrifying gags which will stay with you long after the last credits have rolled. The Saw franchise springs to mind. But other than that, there’s Cabin Fever, The Shining, Exorcist and so on. For horror fans, the Halloween horror film has been around for quite some time now, and is still one of the most popular ones out there today, whether it’s a traditional haunted house set up or a totally different style, it’s sure to be a huge hit.

There are so many genres of scary movies, which range from the classic to the modern day, from the supernatural and haunted house setups to the modern day slasher flicks like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween. There’s also the traditional, daytime scary movies like Sleepaway Camp, Rosemary’s Baby and The Shining, and even the late night horror shows, like Dracula and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby have been turned into daytime shows, with some excellent casts. The Exorcist even spawned a sequel called The Shining, which is absolutely brilliant.

No list of scary movies would be complete without a mention of the Scary Movie franchise, which started with the very first, Scary Movie in 1984. It was directed by David F. Sandler and featured him alongside his newbie buddy, Bill Murray. Though a lot of Scary Movie’s that followed were less scary in nature, but they still worked very well, especially when Sandler took a turn at the genre and directed movies such as Big & Rich, Man on the Moon, and Billy Madison. No list of Scary Movies would be complete without a mention of Mr. And Mrs. Incredible, the very first animated feature film directed by Petersung Seats, and written and starring Aladdin, along with Tim Burton’s remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

No list of scary movie classics would be complete without a mention of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which is probably the most well known of them all. One of my favorite horror films of all time, A Nightmare on Elm Street is considered by many to be one of the scariest movies ever made, and it has a cult following today even more than it did when it was first shown. I can think about just about anything that is scarier than this film, and there is a reason for that. This is a horror movie that is made completely of scares, and I don’t think there is any other type of film that gets scarier than a good old fashioned horror film.

No list of scary movie flicks would be complete without a mention of the much talked about, Saw series. In my opinion, the Saw series is perhaps the best of all of them, bar none. The entire series, from Saw 1 to Saw 3, is an awesome series of horror movies that just about every person loved when it came out, and people still love it to this day. If you want to see some of the greatest horror films of all time, I highly recommend seeing Saw, or at least giving the series a try.
